Aldol reaction of enolates of N-acyl-1,3-oxazolidin-2-ones (I) with (II) occur with low to good stereoselectivity depending on the steric properties of the N-acyl group. Attempts to remove the auxiliary from (III) results only for (IIId) in the formation of the desired acid (V).
