ChemInform Abstract

The method is based on the conversion of iminothiopyrans (VI) to dihydropyridinethiones (VII) by a Dimroth-type rearrangement. The final hydrogenation of syn/anti-mixtures of iminium iodides (VIII) provides the separable piperidines (IX) and (X) with cis-isomers as major products.
