ChemInform Abstract

2,3′-Biquinolyl dianions react with organo-lithium compounds to furnish the corresponding 2′-substituted 1′,2′-dihydrobiquinolyls (III) in high yields. Treatment of the above reaction mixture with alkyl halides provides corresponding 1′-alkyl-2′-substituted dihydrobiquinolyls [cf. (V)]. Use of Grignard reagents in place of organo-lithium compounds gives the same products, however, in lower yields.
