ChemInform Abstract

The title compound is prepared by reaction of a stoichiometric mixture of the elements at 530 °C (evacuated quartz tube, 170 h). Ni8Bi8SI crystallizes in space group P4 with Z = 1. The structure consists of 1[Ni8Bi8S+] columns which are separated by I- ions. The compound exhibits one-dimensional metallic conductivity and Pauli paramagnetic behavior, which is in good agreements with electronic structure calculations.
