ChemInform Abstract

Reduction of various phosphine oxides (I), (III), (V) proceeds smoothly by reaction with a methylating reagent followed by LiAlH4. Using this method at low temperatures, optically active phosphine oxides (I) and (III) can be stereospecifically reduced with inversion of the configuration at the phosphorus atom and with excellent enantioselectivity.
