Reactions of the title biquinolyls (I) with organo-lithium compounds (II) provides a mixture of regioisomers (III) and (IV). Similar reactions in the presence of TMEDA proceed more regioselectively providing almost exclusive access to 2-substituted biquinolyls (IV) after quenching with water and 1-methyl-2-substituted biquinolyls (VI) after treatment with MeI.
