ChemInform Abstract

Photochemical reaction of the bis(silylated) pyran (I) with benzaldehyde gives only low yields of the expected product (III). The reaction with acetone and benzoquinone fails. More activated carbonyl substrates give 4-substituted bis(silylated) pyrans via a radical coupling. In some cases, by-products resulting from oxidation are isolated.
