ChemInform Abstract

The title compounds are prepared from Au2O3×xH2O and Ln2O3 (Ln: Nd, Sm, Eu) by solid state reaction under elevated oxygen pressure using KOH as mineralizer (steel autoclave, 350—415 MPa, 500—560 °C, 1 week). As revealed by powder (Ln: Nd) and single crystal XRD (Ln: Sm, Eu) the compounds are isostructural and crystallize in the orthorhombic space group Pbcn with Z = 4. The crystal structure consists of square planar AuO4 units stacked as columns and linked to each other by LnO7 polyhedra. The effective magnetic moments of the compounds confirm trivalent lanthanides. UV/VIS spectra are given.
