Cross-coupling of 2,6-dibromopyridine (I) with the 2-bromopyrimidines (II) gives the key compounds (III) in multi-gram quantities. Their cross-coupling with readily generated phenyl, pyridyl or benzyl zinc chlorides leads to substituted pyridylpyrimidine fungicides.
