ChemInform Abstract

A fundamentally new strategy for the construction of the AB-C-O-D ring of vancomicin is described. Thus, cycloetherification of (II) gives the 22-membered macrocycle (III) with an endo aryl-aryl ether linkage and a biaryl bond. A transannular cycloamidation for the construction of the bicyclic precursor for vancomycin is planned.
