Starting from the title salt (I) monofluoroethylene compounds, e.g. (IV) and (V), or chromenes such as (VII) are prepared. Hydrogenation of the latter proceeds without or with defluorination to give the corresponding chromanes, cf. (VIII) or (IX), respectively.
