ChemInform Abstract

The title ethers, sulfides, and selenides (9 examples, 2-pyridyl-(CH2)2-X; X: -O-Ph, -S-aryl, -Se-Ph, -S-Ac, S-octyl) are prepared and their oxidation potentials are determined by rotating disk electrode voltammetry. The oxidation potentials are found to be less positive than those of the corresponding compounds having a phenyl group in place of the pyridyl group. Introducing of a pyridyl group at an appropriate position seems to facilitate the electron transfer by dynamic coordination of the pyridyl group to the heteroatom.
