ChemInform Abstract

BiVO4 photocatalysts are prepared by reaction of the layered vanadates KV3O8 and K3V5O14 with Bi(NO3)3 (H2O, 20 °C, 3 d). Highly crystalline monoclinic and tetragonal BiVO4 are selectively synthesized by changing the V : Bi ratio of the starting material. The photocatalytic activity of monoclinic BiVO4 calcined at 700—800 K in the O2 evolution from silver nitrate solutions under UV or visible light irradiation is much higher than that of BiVO4 prepared by conventional solid state reaction. The quantum yield at 450 nm for the O2 evolution on monoclinic BiVO4 is 9%.
