ChemInform Abstract

(Sc1-xTix)Ni alloys with 0 ≤ x ≤ 0.5 exhibit large hydrogen storage capacity, which, however, decreases with increasing Ti content in line with the decreasing unit cell volume. The binary compound ScNi is able to store 2.7 wt.% H2, while the hydrogen storage capacity of (Sc0.5Ti0.5)Ni is reduced to 1.5 wt.%. The electrochemical discharge capacity varies in a more complex manner with (Sc0.7Ti0.3)Ni showing the largest value of 231 mAh/g. The capacity loss after 10 charge/discharge cycles varies nonlinearly between 5% for (Sc0.5Ti0.5)Ni and 46% for (Sc0.9Ti0.1)Ni.
