ChemInform Abstract

Alkenyl sulfones, substituted with an electron-withdrawing substituent at the α-position, react with ethyl isocyanoacetate in the presence of base to give 4-substituted pyrrole-2-carboxylates. In the case of (IV), regioisomers are formed. From sulfones (VII) bearing a pentafluoroethyl residue, pyrroles (VIII) and (IX) are obtained.
