ChemInform Abstract

A series of isomeric sulfonyl and sulfinyl imidazoles are prepared by two general methods. In the first method chlorosulfonyl derivatives of type (I) are reduced, alkylated and oxidized to give (IV) or (VI). In the second method the chlorosulfonyl derivatives are converted to sodium sulfinates and reacted with alkyl halides to afford compounds such as (VIII).
