ChemInform Abstract

The preparation of fimbrolides (II) and (IV) and related compounds by bromination of levulinic acid derivatives followed by sulfuric acid catalyzed cyclization is reinvestigated in order to provide reliable experimental details. The lactone derivatives prepared are of potential interest due to their antifungal and antimicrobial properties.
