ChemInform Abstract

A new, third polymorphic phase of Co2P2O7, is identified in the attempt to synthesize a Rb, Co monophosphat. The new phase, denoted γ-Co2P2O7, is prepared by hydrothermal reaction of Rb2CO3, CoCO3, and (NH4)2HPO4 at 873 K (autoclave, ≈50 MPa, 72 h). γ-Co2P2O7 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/a with Z = 2. The structure consists of sheets of connected six-membered rings of edge-sharing CoO6 octahedra. The sheets are linked to a three-dimensional framework via P2O7 groups.
