ChemInform Abstract

The synthesis of 8-N-allylaminoquinolines is studied. The allylation of 8-aminoquinoline (V) gives a mixture of mono- and diallylamino derivatives (VI) and (VII) in ratios depending on the reaction conditions. Since products (VI) and (VII) are hard to separate, the formation of N-acetyl(tosyl)-N-allylaminoquinolines (III) is attempted. These derivatives are shown to cyclize very smoothly in the presence of iodine to form the pyrazino[3,2,1-i,f]quinolinium iodides (IV).
