ChemInform Abstract

A convenient method for the synthesis of functionally substituted hexahydroquinolines (V) via condensation of the aliphatic aldehydes (II) with dimedone (I) and activated methylene compound (III) is developed. Similar cyclocondensation of dimedone (I), aldehydes (II) and malononitrile (VI) provides a convenient access to the tetrahydrochromenes (VII). Compound (Va) is characterized using X-ray crystallography.
