ChemInform Abstract

Metalation of allyl isothiocyanate (I) with a mixture of LDA and KOtBu followed by successive quenching with water and methyl iodide leads to a high yield formation of the 2-alkylthiopyrrole (III). Omitting KOtBu during metalation gives the thiazole (IV) after quenching.
