ChemInform Abstract

Single crystals of the new nesosilicate of title are prepared by melting stoichiometric mixtures of Y2O3, CaCO3, and SiO2 (1873 K, 48 h). Ca3Y2(SiO4)3 crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pnma with Z = 4. The Ca2+ and Y3+ cations are present at nine-, eight-, and seven-coordinate sites.
