ChemInform Abstract

Single crystals of the title compound are obtained from the reaction of PtI2, Bi, and BiI at 630 K (evacuated quartz tube, several weeks). Bi13Pt3I7 crystallizes in the triclinic space group Cequation image with Z = 4. The layered structure consists of Kagome nets of edge-sharing PtBi8 cubes. The hexagonal-prismatic voids within the nets are filled by I atoms to form 2[(PtBi8/2)3I] layers. The layers are alternately separated by layers of I atoms or 1[BiI-4] zigzag-chains.
