ChemInform Abstract

The title compound is prepared by reaction of Y metal with elemental Se in a CsCl flux (700 °C, 7 d, evacuated silica tube). Cs3Y7Se12 crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pnnm with Z = 2 (single crystal XRD). Edge- and vertex-connected YSe6 octahedra form a rocksalt-like network with one-dimensional infinite channels along [001] which are occupied by the Cs+ cations.
