ChemInform Abstract

The title compounds (I) are synthesized in 4-91% yields via the corresponding acyclic tetramers by a stepwise procedure. The thiacalixarenes are conformationally more flexible than the parent calixarene as indicated by NMR studies. The thiacalixarenes serve as inclusion hosts for organic compounds forming crystalline complexes.
