ChemInform Abstract

It offers a new method to lactones and lactams of type (II) and (IV) which are useful synthetic building blocks. Attempts to close simple lactones from methyl 4-ethoxycarbonyl-3-butenyl dimethylpropanedioate, however, are unsuccessful. Nitrogen substrates of type (III) lacking N- phenyl substitution also fail to undergo cyclization.
