ChemInform Abstract

Dark red single crystals of BaAg2S2 are obtained by reaction of Ba(Ag( CN)2)2 in a stream of H2S at 500 °C and crystallization from a KSCN melt of 480 °C. As revealed from the single-crystals XRD data, the compound (trigonal, P3m1, Z = 1) adopts the CaAl2Si2 type structure. The occurrence of three longer and one shorter S-Ag distances in BaAg2S2 is discussed.
