ChemInform Abstract

A novel asymmetric Baeyer-Villiger oxidation of the bicycloheptenone ( I) using a culture of the fungus Cunninghamella echinulata gives a single enantiopure lactone (II) which is elaborated to multifidene (VI) and viridiene (VIII), the major constituents of some brown algae pheromones.
