ChemInform Abstract

A novel synthesis of liquid-crystalline (meth)acrylate monomers (V) is described. Photopolymerization of (V) preserves the liquid-crystalline structure in cross-linked polymers. Mixtures of these monomers (V) and chiral monofunctional liquid-crystalline monomers exhibit chiral smectic C mesomorphism that is made permanent by photopolymerization and subsequent cross-linking.
