ChemInform Abstract

The rotational selectivity of the thermal ring opening of the title compound (II), obtained from commercially available (I), is predicted by ab initio calculations. By experiments, it is verified that the Lewis acid ZnI2 reverses the slight preference for the E-diene (III) towards the thermodynamically less stable Z-diene (IV).
