ChemInform Abstract

Rietveld refinement of the neutron powder diffraction data of Nd2Co17- xAlx (x: 2, 3, 4) compounds of the rhombohedral Th2Zn17 structure type show that the Al atoms slightly prefer the 18 h and completely avoid the 9d Co-sites. From magnetic measurements an almost linear decrease of the Curie temp. with the Al concentration is observed which is accompanied by a less strong decrease of the saturation moment at 4.2 K. The compound with the highest Al concentration (x: 4) exhibits a spin reorientation slightly above room temperature.
