ChemInform Abstract

The title pyrrole pigment (IV) is synthesized by acid catalyzed condensation of the two dipyrrinone fragments (I) and (II). The configuration of (IV) is established by 2D 1H NMR experiments. The pronounced solvatochromic effect of (IV), which has a cyclic helical geometry, is explained by solvent induced conformational changes.
