The (6 + 3) cycloaddition of 2-oxallyl cation derived from the dibromoketones (I) and (IV) with the fulveneketene acetal (II) provides a novel entry to indan ring systems (III) and (V). The latter are isolated as single stereoisomers, however, the correct relative stereochemistry is not established.
