The Pd-catalyzed coupling reaction of appropriately functionalized aryl bromides (I) and (VI) with allylic alcohols (II) and (VII) results in 5-membered ring annulation, whereas with homoallylic alcohols, e.g. (IV) 6-membered rings are formed.
