ChemInform Abstract

Large single crystals of UFe10Si2 grown by the Czochralski method are characterized by XRD and magnetization measurements. The compound, crystallizing in the tetragonal space group I4/mmm with Z = 2 (ThMn12 type structure), exhibits uniaxial anisotropy of the ferromagnetic state and a saturation magnetization of 19.5 μB per formula unit. For the hard magnetization direction, a type-1 first order magnetization process (FOMP) is observed which is assigned to a rotation process of the total magnetization as shown by simultaneous measurement of the longitudinal transverse components of the magnetization. The anisotropy constants also indicate a significant contribution of the U atoms to the magnetic anisotropy of UFe10Si2.
