ChemInform Abstract

The formal replacement of 2 Nb5+ in the Nb8W9O47 phase by Nb4+ or W4+, resp., and W6+ leads to mixed valent (Nb,W)17O47 phases. The compounds Nb8-xW9+xO47 with 0 ≤ x ≤ 5 are prepared by reacting Nb2O5/WO3 mixtures with NbO2 or WO2 at 1250 °C (3-4 d, HgCl2 as mineralizer). All phases are isostructural with the parent compound Nb8W9O47 (powder XRD). The compound with x = 6 is obtained besides an unidentified cubic phase.
