ChemInform Abstract

If the palladium-catalyzed rearrangement of allyl vinyl ether (I) to . alpha.-allyl ketone (II) takes place in the presence of a base, the process is followed by an intramolecular Heck arylation to give the spiro-indan (III). Investigation of the crotyl ether suggests that the 1,3-allyl shift proceeds via a π-allyl palladium intermediate.
