ChemInform Abstract

Analogous to a known reaction, cathodic reduction of (I) is performed in order to generate a hydroxypyranone via a ketene intermediate. To trap the bromine formed in the anionic process, solid NaS2O3 is placed on the diaphragm in the anionic side. Under these conditions, an unexpected heterocyclic sulfur compound (II) is obtained.
