ChemInform Abstract

In attempts to get a new LnMn7O10Cl3 phase, the novel title compound is obtained by reaction of YbCl3, MnO2 and MnCl2 at 800 °C ( evacuated silica tube). According to the single crystal XRD data the compound crystallizes in the cubic space group Fm3m with Z = 8. In the structure, which is closely related to that of FeMn7O10Cl3, Yb atoms are 6- and 8-coordinated with O atoms forming YbO8 cubes and YbO6 octahedra. Mn atoms occupy two octahedral sites, MnO4Cl2 and MnCl6 with only half of the Cl6 octahedra filled with Mn.
