ChemInform Abstract

Violet crystals of the title compound are prepared by dissolving CoCO3 in an aqueous solution of H2SeO3. According to the XRD data the compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/n with Z = 2 and is isostructural with Zn(HSeO3)2×2 H2O. The structure consists of slightly distorted CoO6 octahedra bridged by HSeO- 3 ions forming layers perpendicular to the ac plane. Hydrogen bonding with participation of the protonated oxygen atoms yields a three- dimensional framework. The compound decomposes via loss of water of crystallization and CoSeO3 to CoO.
