ChemInform Abstract

The title compound is prepared by reaction of Tb4O7 and WO3 with excess Cu2WO4 at 950 °C (24 h, closed Cu-tube, 100 °C/h cooling rate). γ-CuTbW2O8 crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1 with Z = 6 (single crystal XRD). The structure is closely related to that of β-CuNdW2O8, but differs in the stacking of the lanthanoid ions in the (110) direction. While the Nd3+ ions of the . beta.-form are strongly linearly stacked, the Tb3+ ion exhibits a staggered configuration.
