ChemInform Abstract

A short, useful and general method for the synthesis of γ- dialkyl-branched, syn-β-hydroxy-α-amino acids such as the unusual title C-9 amino acid (VII) is given. Crucial steps in the facile sequence are the Sharpless epoxidation of enantiomerically pure γ-alkynyl-substituted allylic alcohols and the stereocontrolled epoxide opening with Me-NH2.
