ChemInform Abstract

The addition of in situ generated mono- or di-halomethyl lithium to chiral esters such as (I) is performed without loss of chirality resulting in the formation of halogenated α-hydroxy or α- amino ketones such as (III) or (VII). The transformation of (IIId) to the amino oxirane (V) which is a useful intermediate in organic synthesis is performed.
