ChemInform Abstract

The DL-allylglycinate (I) - available by standard procedures from allylglycine - is subjected to ozonolysis to yield the aldehyde (II). On deprotection, the title aspartic acid β-semialdehyde (IV) is obtained as a hydrate. This procedure is also applicable to the synthesis of the corresponding D- and L-allylglycine derivatives.
