The synthesis of a range of new title thienonaphthyridines (III) (9 examples) by base-induced intramolecular cyclization of S-alkylated naphthyridines (II) and their further transformation into related heterocycles by intermolecular ring closure reactions are given (cf. ( IV), (VI), (VIII)).
