ChemInform Abstract

(S)-Citronellal (I) reacts with the sulfinyl esters (II) and (V) to give diastereoselectively the optically active unsaturated hydroxyesters (III) and (IV). The ratios depend on the substituents and the absolute stereochemistry of the sulfoxides as well as on the amount of base.
