ChemInform Abstract

The dialkyl(or diaryl)monochlorosilanes (I) are consecutively treated with ethyl diazoacetate (II) in the presence of rhodium(II) acetate and the alcohols (III) in the presence of triethylamine to produce the title esters (IV). Further deprotonation and alkylation, e.g. with allyl bromide (V), yields branched analogs, e.g. (VI). Selective reduction of (VIa) to give the alcohol (VII) and subsequent oxidative desilylation result in the formation of the alkenediol (VIII).
