ChemInform Abstract

A novel and general cyclization of α,ω-bis(diazo) diketones such as (I) or (III) allows the synthesis of the cycloalkenone derivatives such as (II) and (IV). The most significant feature is the synthesis of unsubstituted trans-hydroindenones, e.g. ( II), which are difficult to prepare on other routes. The reaction of unsymmetrical α,ω-bis(diazo) diketones such as (V) leads to the formation of regioisomeric products such as (VI) and (VII).
