ChemInform Abstract

The bond lengths and bond angles of BrN3, prepared by reaction of Br2 with excess NaN3 at room temp., are determined by electron diffraction of the gaseous product. As revealed from the results, which are in good agreement with those of ab initio calculations (HF/6-31G, MP2-6- 31G), the BrN3 molecule has a trans-configuration with a slightly bent N3 unit. The structural parameters show a good conformity with those of the remaining halogen azides.
