ChemInform Abstract

A facile synthesis of the title compounds is achieved by condensation of halotropones with bis(2-mercaptoethyl)ethers. As is demonstrated for (III) and (IV), the analogous 1:1- and 2:2-cyclocondensates (V) and (VI) are obtained. Usually, the yields of 1:1 condensates are higher than those of 2:2 condensates. Starting with (VII), 2:2 cyclocondensates are not obtained or only in traces. All compounds are mercurophilic with (Vc) (obtained in 46% yield in a one-step procedure) as the most effective one with respect to both extraction and transportation of Hg2+ ions.
